PIEDMONT, WV - William B. Smith III, "Bill" 82, passed away on February 20, 2019 at his residence in Piedmont. He was born in Piedmont WV on November 24, 1936 and was the son of the late William B. Smith Jr. and Regina (Kenney) Smith of Piedmont. He was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Smith and wife Mary Ellen of Piedmont and in-laws, Clem and Ann Stakem of Midland, MD.
William worked at the Piedmont Foundry and Machine Company with his father, brother and Uncles since his youth. He also worked part-time at Tri-State Mining as a Machinist and retired from Alliant Technical Systems (ABL). William enjoyed a lot of activities, an avid bowler (bowling as perfect 300), a runner, scuba diver and walker. He also participated in the Mineral County Senior Olympics. His hobbies were working along side his son restoring cars and racing in Auto Cross with the Porsche Club. His favorite time was creating beautiful stained glass for his family.
William is survived by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Noreen Stakem Smith; son, William B. Smith IV and wife Amy (Cannon) of Keyser, WV; daughter, Karen and Husband Greg Harvey of Piedmont; a special nephew who was considered the 3rd child, Todd Smith and wife Dianne of Keyser; three grandchildren, William (Chip) Smith and wife Joanne of Scott Depot, WV. Ivy and husband BG Guiler of Morgantown, WV and Ashley (Umstot) and husband Brad Stockman of Hayden, AL and step-grandson, Josiah Harvey of Piedmont. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Will Guiler, Britton, Case and Major Stockman and Autumn and Clara Smith; step-great-grandsons, Peyton and Draven Harvey; sisters-in-law, Patricia Stewart of Midland, MD and Helen and Husband Steve Comer of Jamul, CA; nephew, Scott Smith of Keyser and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive Friends on Saturday February 23, 2019 from 10 am to 12 pm with Funeral Services being held at 12pm at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, WV with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Fredlock Funeral Home of Piedmont, WV.
