Paul Welsh

Paul J. Welsh, age 88, 132 Church St, Westernport, MD, died March 26, 2018 at Moran Manor Nursing Home in Westernport, MD..

Born Oct 3, 1929, in Westernport, he was the son of the late James A. Welsh, Jr, and Nora (Ryan) Welsh.   Preceding him in death were four sisters (Eleanor Nelson, Margaret Fatkin, Franchel Guy, Christine Stakem), two brothers (James  A. Welsh III, and Charles Welsh); and his 7 yr old grandson Shawn Smith. Paul was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving Paul are his dear wife, of 63 years JoAnn (McCabe) Welsh and his  children Glenn Welsh and his wife Mickie of Winchester, VA; Marsha Reese and husband Charles, of Harrisonburg, VA; Sonja Stewart and husband Jim of Jefferson, MD.  Five surviving grandsons, Derek King, Brandon Welsh, Seth Welsh, Zack Reese and Owen Stewart. Two granddaughters Brooke Reese and Lexi Stewart.  Two great-grandchildren, Juliet and Abel King.

Paul was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Westernport.  He was a 1947 graduate of St Peter’s High School. He was also past President of St. Peter’s PTA and past President of St. Peter’s School Alumni.  He was a lifetime member of Piedmont Council #685 Knights of Columbus.  Paul was also past President of the El Fidel Club. Present member of Tri-Towns Senior Citizens.

Paul was manager of the Welsh Theater and was associated with various businesses with his father for many years throughout the Tri-Towns.  He enjoyed music, dining out with friends, working in his yard and travelling. He was a great fan of Lawrence Welk on Saturday night television.

The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, WV, Tuesday, March 27, from 5-8 PM.  A rosary will be recited at the Funeral home at 8 PM.  Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 28, at 11 AM.  Father Ed Hendricks will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
