Hazel Coleman

March 14, 1923 — December 24, 2020

Hazel Regina (Trenum) Coleman, 97, went home to be with her Lord on December 24, 2020 surrounded by the wonderfully caring staff at Stonerise of Keyser. Born March 14, 1923 in Westernport, MD, she is the daughter of the late Wallace Benjamin Trenum and Annie Jeanette Myers Trenum.

While working in her brother’s restaurant as a young woman, Hazel caught the eye of the late Rev. Marvin Harold Coleman, whom she married on November 15, 1941. They settled in Piedmont, WV and later Keyser, WV, where they raised two sons and lived out their creed of being “a friend to man” to everyone that crossed their paths. Hazel loved the Lord more than anything and was a consummate Christian servant - both in her role as a pastor’s wife and especially in her role as a babysitter for over 50 years. Affectionately known as “Colmie” by her charges, many generations had the privilege of experiencing her special brand of love and care through the years.

Hazel served faithfully alongside her husband in their ministry at Burlington Assembly of God for many years. In later years, she was a devoted member of the Westernport Assembly of God as well. Hazel’s unwavering faith gives us assurance that she is rejoicing in Heaven with her parents, beloved husband, seven sisters, two brothers, eldest son Eugene Harold Coleman, and many friends and family who have gone before.

Though she loved her church family and babysitting charges fiercely, Hazel’s greatest source of pride was her family. Missing her terribly but trusting in a joyful reunion in Heaven one day are her son, John (Elsie) Coleman of Berkeley Springs, WV; grandchildren, Kimberley (David) Rumsmoke of Evington, VA, Heather Sue Coleman of Richmond, VA, Tara-Beth Coleman of Fredericksburg, VA, Gene Coleman of Catskill, NY, Tracey (Michael) Cenate of Charles Town, WV, Tiffany (John) Testa of Charleston, WV, Marvin S. Coleman of Lawsonville, NC, and Rachel (Ryan) Frampton of Safety Harbor, FL; twelve great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held at Fredlock Funeral Home, 31 Jones Street, Piedmont, WV 26750 on Monday, December 28th from 11-1 with the funeral service immediately following the viewing. Longtime family friend Dr. Mark Reed will serve as officiant. Viewing, funeral and burial are private due to COVID restrictions. Interment will be held in Nethken Hill Cemetery, Elk Garden, WV on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
