Colleen Moses Barnard 92 of Hazelhurst RD, Swanton, MD went to her eternal reward on August 10, 2021 at Stonerise Nursing Home in Keyser, WV. She was born on December 27, 1928 at Barton, MD and was the daughter of the late David and Feliss (Porter) Moses. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin R. Barnard, who died in Aug of 2015, and her sister Agnes Moses.
She was a member of the Brethren Church and attended Divine Hope in Oakland, MD. She grew up in Barton and was a graduate of Barton High School in 1946. She was the Valedictorian of her class. She received a scholarship to Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland, MD. She retired from Potomac State College and worked in the financial aid office. She was a member of the Bloomington Homemakers for many years
In early 1950 she met Ed Barnard at a square dance. They married on Oct. 20th 1950. They were united in marriage for nearly Sixty-five years. They spent many summers on Deep Creek Lake and later spent winters in Venice, FL.
Colleen stayed busy after her children were born volunteering for the Parent Teacher Association and a Girl Scout Leader and Den Mother. When her children went off to college she returned to Potomac State College to work in the accounting Department.
She love to paint with acrylics and was a voracious reader. She had a true passion for bridge and played in several clubs. She loved watching the Steelers and the Pens play.
Colleen is survived by her son, Paul Barnard and wife Ellen of Bloomington, MD and her daughter, Kathryn Kellems and husband Mark of Newburg, IN. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jordan Goodge, Erik Goodge and wife Becca, Trevor Goodge, Spencer Barnard and wife Kim, and Alex Barnard and seven Great-Grandchildren, Allysen , Hydee, Sereniti, Rosie, and Thea Goodge and Gwneth and Edwin Barnard.
The family will receive friends at the Fredlock Funeral Home in Piedmont, WV on Monday, Aug. 16 from 4 until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 AM with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Barton, MD.
